Hygge is a Danish word that means: a quality of coziness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being (regarded as a defining characteristic of Danish culture).
For most it involves candles, soft blankets, textured pillows and throws, rugs, warm lighting, the crackling of the fireplace, and hot drinks.
Your Hygge might look different compared to mine. Warm earthy tones and lots of twinkle lights make me melt. But some prefer to surround themselves with football decor or beach merch and find themselves unclenching and relaxing.
(I don’t understand those people but I respect their cozy levels.)
As Christmas is peaking up around the corner, we are decorating for the Holiday season! Which means we are exchanging out the pumpkins and autumnal colors/decorations for the more merry and bright Christmas ones. Lots of blues and reds instead of browns and Oranges lead us into a different style of hygge in our household.
(Most of the blues do stem from my mother’s extensive snowman collection that only appears this time of year )
So far we only have the tree up, but that will change by next week I’m sure. Are you a fake snow person? Personally our tree doesn’t feel right until we blizzard it in the stuff. Afterwards my mom and I went “Ahhh. Yeah, that’s better.” It felt like our tree. Our Christmas.
Our Hygge.
The weather has turned frigid down here in Oklahoma. I’ve pulled out my Sherpa sweatshirts and I’m looking around my room for my wool socks. For some reason I can’t seem to keep colored socks together >_< . Leaving only my black socks that are basically paper thin! I will be rectifying this by exiling most of those thin socks until warmer weather, thus having more room for either a) finding my thick socks or b) purchasing new ones!
Of course with the thrilling appearance of snow and ice and sweater weather, we have to talk about/ask ourselves if the chronic illness you or a friend face is worsened by the change in temperature.
Personally the cold worsens some of my symptoms like overall pain and aches. But for some they find that the cold weather is a relief to their bodies and the hot weather is the culprit! *shocked face*
So Scribblings I’d urge you to take note as the season changes. Write down your experiences and chat about them with a friend/family member. Some one who cares. Someone who will remember.
And if you are a friend/family of a chronically ill person this is your gentle reminder to give more grace and understanding but also to keep them in your prayers. As this is probably a hard time of year for their bodies.
How was your Thanksgiving? Mine was good! We spent it over at my Aunt Tracie and Uncle Mike’s house. The unmarried cousins and my nephew played Mario Kart together before dinner and then afterwards we played Blitz! My grandma, mom, Aunt, sis in law, and cousin Macie and I played for a bit before my brother Sean switched in for sis in law Lauren. Liam, my nephew, wanted so badly to play but he’s just too young, 6, to play the fast paced card game. Maybe next year .
After pies we played some Jack in the Box games on the Switch. We tried playing virtual Clue but it kept glitching > . Not happy about that.
All in all a fun Thanksgiving. The food was good the company was great and the games were fun.
Well it’s the last few days of KDWC/Nanowrimo! And I’m soooo behind that I had to change my goal *hides behind chair* . To be fair! I got sick -_- . *clears throat* yeah, uh so I changed my goal to 12 chapters instead of 19 so only 2 more to go!!
I’m going to be finishing the rest of the chapters in December so that come January I can start fresh and finally finish Starry Subject!! So excited .
So Scribblings, how was your Nano/Camp? Have you completed your goal yet or are you behind like I am? If you aren’t a writer, what’s something you’ve enjoyed doing recently? I’d love to hear all about it in the comments <3 .
I’m off to write my little heart out . . . And probably procrastinate by cleaning, Pinterest, gaming, etc. . . Shhhhhh don’t tell anyone that though! It’s a writer secret .
‘Till next we meet.

Hygge is my new favorite word!
We did our tree just this weekend, ours is brand new with the snow covers branches and it is so pretty.
Yesss, it has become sock time in the area of Oklahoma I’m in. I love socks but I do not do well keeping pairs together, lol.
Our Thanksgiving was just a quiet day making dinner with some things for my birthday since it was the same day this year.
I am so close to changing my goal, I’m quite behind but trying so we’ll see if I hit it or not!
It’s one of my favorites too!! Oooooo! That sounds so cozy and pretty <3. Winter has come for us Okies, lol. Ughhhh yes the struggle is real with keeping those pairs together! Oh how fun! Happy belated birthday, Abigail! Did you hit your goal?
