Migraine advice and some writing/productivity advice.

Hello folks, how are you doing? I hope you’re well and if you are not then I hope that it gets better soon <3 .
Recently I’ve been experiencing migraines practically every day for the past couple months. It’s not been a good time.
This isn’t a brand new symptom to me, looking back on the past few years I realized that every mid January through March I get these migraine attacks. February is always the worst of it… Realizing this is a recurring issue makes things easier for me. It’s not a flare up that I need to baby so I get better quicker. This is, sadly, just a fact of life for me right now.

So over the past few weeks I’ve been trying different things to up my productivity! I’m still figuring it out the balances and my “Cannot not and my will not’s.” .

Here’s some of the tips and tricks I’ve been using to do more during this painful period of life. I hope at least one of these things will help you in your journey.

In no particular order:

1) Have a heating blanket and or heating pad at the ready. I notice that my symptoms get worse when I’m cold, so having a heating blanket on my lap can help me focus and relax. Many of my migraines are lessened by heat as well, so having the heating pad on my shoulders/back can help some.

2) Binarual beats. This is my favorite one right now. I notice that it helps more when I put in earbuds to listen. But I’ll put this on when I can’t do much else but lay in bed with the pain. Or like now I’m listening to it to help me write this blog post! (I also have a favorite one for fibromyalgia!)

3) Pushing yourself for a small amount of time and then resting for a long period of time. Setting a timer for say 20 minutes or less (even 5 minutes) and then resting for 30+ minutes can really help! You want to create a balance between getting the rest you HAVE to get and trying to accomplish things. As chronically ill folk we have to realize that our stamina just ain’t like other folk. We have to respect that and be okay with having longer breaks than work times some times.

4) Taking meds to help. I take: magnesium citrate and glycinate, st Jon’s wort, D, A, K, Boswala, Holy Basil, Hemp/CBD oil and creams/balms (I use the heavy hitter and the hemp and blue creams and balms.), Ibuprofen and sudephed (Sometimes this works sometimes it doesn’t. But only taking the Ibuprofen never works for me.),
I’ll use the Boswala, Holy Basil, and Heavy hitter all at once. I call it the Trifecta. It helps but sometimes it targets my other chronic pain rather than the migraine :D .

5) Ask for help. Be it a massage from a family member, prayer, or encouragement. Ask! It can do wonders and if you can be completely open with someone about what’s happening that day then they can encourage and help you make a proper and attainable decision/goal.

6) Cold therapy. Sometimes an ice pack is a great key for migraines. Sometimes not. But hey, try it out. My dad just came into my room with the CBD balm and the coldest hands known to man. He slathered that on my face and neck and massaged my forehead and temples. That helped take the pain down a notch or two!

7) Having attainable small goals. Maybe all you can do today is write 1 hour scattered around the day. Write for 5-10 minutes at a time and then REST. Or maybe you need to push yourself and write for a whole hour and then REST! I’m typically the latter with productivity. I like to get a big chunk done and then rest for hours, lol.

8) Pray and ask God for help, health, and guidance. It’s the last thing we think of to do but the first thing we Christian’s offer to others. ;)

9) Keep your hydration levels up. Tea, lemonade, water, etc. Dehydration will make your migraine worse, trust me on this.

10) If you are having migraines daily for a long period of time, please get this checked out. One of my chiropractors offers Vega testing. (A form of electronic acupuncture that allows the doctor to see what your body needs. I lay on my back and they put a rod on my chest, diaphragm or lower stomach, the dr. At my feet and the nurse attends to the device above checking different boxes with an attached rod. It’s weird but works for me most times.) And through this I was able to discover that my migraines right now are from seasonal allergies. Yay.
Try going to your doctor. Be it a chiropractor, holistic medicine, regular doctor, acupuncture, massage therapist, whatever. It’s better to be safe than sorry and maybe some relief is on the horizon, friend.

That’s it from me today, I hope this helped. And I hope you are having a great day.

’Till next we meet.
